The Humber Mouth

Hull Literature Festival
16th June - 1st July 2007

Humber Mouth 2007 welcomes a number of major writers to Hull between 16th June and 1st July. This year we are delighted to be welcoming Will Self, who returns following his sell-out event in 2003; Shami Chakrabarti, the Director of Liberty, Joanne Harris, author of Chocolat; the internationally renowned performance poet Jean Binta Breeze; top media psychiatrist Raj Persaud; lad-lit novelist Mike Gayle; cult writers Dan Rhodes and Steven Hall, and a range of other events.

We premiere a staged reading of Jackie Kays The Lamplighter at Hull Truck in an epic production which looks at the lives of four enslaved women. An outstanding contribution to the Wilberforce 2007 commemorations, The Lamplighter was first broadcast on Radio 3.

Multi-award-winning stand-up comedian Robin Ince visits Pave in a show which follows on from his spectacular Book Club, which took a brutal but affectionate look at some of the worst books ever published. Robin has won the TimeOut Comedy Award, a Chortle Award and a prestigious British Comedy Award nomination. He also toured with Ricky Gervais on the fastest selling comedy tour of all time.

Elsewhere we have the History Wardrobe who promise to undress Mr Darcy; dance from Another Dance Company; a Q&A; session with top agent Simon Trewin; youth arts from Creative Voice; Clare Pollard; music and poetry from Milner Place & Lyn Acton, and much more.
