4AM LATITUDINAL

listen to the wind
whispering in passages
conspiring with the dust
about us
unwound
round other people's furniture

listen
to the flies whirring
at the windows' solid sky
and the breath of shallow tides
on your skin
stretching

listen
to tepid water
draining from a tub
and a fridge shivering when shut

listen to a peach
tearing

Keith Valentine, Hull

"Listen" The hissing sound of sleeplessness runs through this piece and every image is aural. "a peach tearing" the final image, involves all one's senses and is the quietest sound of all."
