Recent trends would have us believe that genes explain everything our personalities, relationships, lifestyles the very lives we live. Using Philip Larkins famous poem as a framework, clinical psychologist Oliver James argues that in reality, who we are is largely the result of the way we were cared for in early childhood.

In his new book, They F*** You Up how to survive family life, James illustrates new evidence with startling and detailed case histories of prominent interviewees such as Jeffrey Archer and Stephen Fry, along with revealing psychobiographies of the likes of Woody Allen, Mia Farrow and Prince Charles.

Oliver James is a clinical psychologist, writer and tv documentary producer.
His books include Juvenile Violence in a Winner-Loser Culture, and the bestselling Britain on the Couch which was also a successful documentary series for Channel 4.
